Well, this Christmas Eve was the most unusual one we have had in many years. Our normal routine would have been to go to Beth's late afternoon and have a nice dinner with the family and exchange our gifts. Literally, as we were getting ready--ie I was ironing and making sure everyone had their clothes ready, and the kids were freshly bathed and waiting patiently to get dressed, Jake starts vomiting. UGH! This is after we had all had the stomach flu two times!! So, the decision was made that we should not go to Beth's. So, mom decided that she wanted to come to our house and drop off the kids presents so they could at least open them. After the exchange of gifts, we preceded to spend the next hour and a half on speaker phone so we could open and talk to each other as we opened. It was difficult to hear everyone, but we accomplished the task. Later that night, mom called and read the kids the true story of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer on speaker phone while they were cuddled on the couch. The saying of the night was "Not bad, just different".
